A632.8.4.RB - Cynefin Framework Reflection

   Cynefin Framework Reflection

According to Snowden, when we make decisions we are making them based off of things we know and things we don’t know that have an influence on us. The Cynefin Framework is a model that we can use to help us make sense out of problems that we are being faced. He states very clearly that it is not a categorization model as though it would appear, but more about space instead of sections.

The patterns, or the information needed to make a decision, emerges out of the this space. The problem that myself and most people face is that we live in the central space known as the “disorder” space (Snowden, 2010). Snowden states that when we are in this space we interpret things based off of our own understanding of the situation or past experiences ( 2010). He also made the statement that within the complex space, the way that most handle a chaotic situation is to gather as many experts as possible to determine which is the best course of action to taken in a particular situation.

The way that the Cynefin framework works is that while we are spending time within the disordered space, it allows us to take a step back, acknowledge if the situation is complex and therefore need to probe, or if it’s complicated, so we need to ask the experts (Snowden, 2010).

I believe that having this tool will help me to make better, more confident decisions and spend less time worrying about what I should do in the first place. I waste a lot of time just thinking about how I should handle a problem. Using the Cynefin framework will allow me to look at the situation, understand the space that it is operating out of, then determine the course of action that needs to be taken.
